description

World Heritage site and facility of the future

It was once the largest and most productive coal mine in the world – Zollverein colliery. Today, “the world’s most beautiful coal mine” (built in the New Objectivity style by Fritz Schupp and Martin Kremmer) and the Zollverein coking plant are the only UNESCO World Heritage site in the Ruhrgebiet. The imposing industrial complex brings together art and culture, architecture and creative industries: more than 40 companies (and recently Folkwang University of the Arts as well) have settled here, making Zollverein a vibrant business location and educational campus.
