Every year from December to January the 150-metre-long Zollverein-Ice Rink attracts skaters to the impressive coking plant scenery. Surrounded by industrial architecture skating on the 1,800 squaremetres of ice amidst the imposing coke oven with the high chimneys and rust-red pipes becomes a unique experience. After dark an installation by Jonathan Speirs and Mark Major illuminates the coking plant with colourful light creating a special romantic winter atmosphere.
